Can You?
Can you? Yes, you can. Yes, we can. Bring a can.
Why? People are hungry. Bring a can of food each week to put in our collection baskets in the church.
These cans will go to Samaritan Ministries for their food bank. Please check the expiration date on the can. Bring everyday food types: i.e., nothing unusual or exotic; non-breakable jars of peanut butter are acceptable.
Questions? Contact Harriette (
hsturges@st-albans-parish.org).

Lunch with the Rector
Each month (on the second Monday of the month) we hold informal lunch meetings with the Rector in Satterlee Hall Library that all parishioners are invited to attend so they can ask questions, raise issues, offer advice, or discuss anything else that’s on their minds. Please bring your lunch and join us. On July 13th it will be lunch with the Associate Rector, since Scott will be away.
Memorial and Commemorative Altar Flowers
The Flower Guild seeks donations for altar flowers given in memory of a family member or friend, and for flowers commemorating achievements and events – “on the occasion of,” such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and the like, for those living. Flowers also can be given simply to honor someone. Please contact Adelaide Brown at 703-845-7975 for information and donation requests.
Navigating Our Website
Sometimes trying to find a specific ministry or program on a website can be a challenge. We have added a feature to our home page (
www.st-albans-parish.org) that we hope will make the process easier. The search option at the bottom of the page is somewhat different from that on most websites. Many website search functions end up referencing every word in the site, and what you often end up with is more obscure results than you care to slog through (or in some cases unwanted cross-references from some publication or press release). Our search mechanism addresses what we have discovered to be the most frequent need: finding basic information about organizations within St. Alban's. To find the best set of links, you should enter a single word (such as "interfaith", "Alban", "peace", "cooking", etc...). HAPPY SEARCHING (and don't forget--our News & Events link at the top of the page is updated several times a week to make sure the information is as up-to-date as possible!)
New Staff Clergy
Let St. Alban's celebrate the official arrival of The Reverend Jered Weber-Johnson and Erin Weber-Johnson. Joining us soon will be their first child Jude Graham, another reason to celebrate.
Jered will be ordained as priest on November 3rd. Please save the date.
Jered and Erin bring many gifts and opportunities to us. Let's share ours with them.
Opportunity Shop
The Opportunity Shop is closing for the summer on Saturday, July 25. However, there will be a Half-price Sale on July 18, 21, 22 & 23, followed by a Bag Sale July 24 and 25. No donations please. For more information, call Janice Molchon at 202-337-1143.
Readers' Forum
The Readers' Forum is on summer recess. We will meet again on Saturday, September 12th at 12:00 noon in the Satterlee Hall library. We chose AMERICAN LION: ANDREW JACKSON IN THE WHITE HOUSE by Jon Meacham to read over the summer. Additionally we chose THE ELEGANCE OF THE HEDGEHOG by Muriel Barberry for October. When we meet again in September, bring your lunch. Dessert and beverages are provided. If you have any questions, call Lynn Freeburger on 410 745-4332.
Rector Away from June 29 – July 10
Scott will be resident at VTS during this time assisting with the D.Min. program there while also trying to finish his project thesis for his own doctorate. During this time he will be in daily touch with the parish office and available for pastoral emergencies.
Spare Fare
Have any spare fare? If you have a metro pass with left over fare, please bring the pass with you on Sundays and place it in the offertory plate. Ushers will separate them from other offerings. Clergy and staff will then distribute the "spare fare" cards to our drop-in guests who need help with transportation.
Survey of Annual Meeting
The clergy and Vestry are curious about parishioner's reactions to issues related to the annual meeting. A survey has been circulating soliciting feedback. If you have not responded online through the email from the Rector, please stop by the Wade Room and pick up a green Survey of Annual Meeting on the vestibule table. You may fill it out and place it in the clear box which is next to the table. If you have any questions or would like a copy of the survey sent to you, please email or call Robin Rudd at
rudd1@verizon.net or 301-493-4374.
Time & Talent Pledging for the current Program Year (September 08 – August 09)
Equally important to our financial pledge each year is pledging of our time and talent to the mission and ministry of St. Alban’s Parish. Time & Talent Pledging may be new to some people, so it might be helpful for you to read further for a thorough description of how it works.
The best and easiest way to pledge is to go to our parish website and click on the link for Time & Talent Pledging. Once there, review and pray over where God may be calling you to serve in the coming year. Check those ministries to which you feel called to serve and submit the pledge. You will receive an email confirmation of your pledge. Also, the leaders of the ministries to which you have pledged will also receive an email with your contact information indicating you have made your pledge of time & talent to that ministry. Those leaders will then be in touch with you as soon as possible to help incorporate you into the ministries to which you have pledged.
If you prefer to pledge by using a hard copy, then those can be found in the Wade Room off Nourse Hall. Once completed, staff and volunteers will enter your pledge into our system and ministry leaders will contact you as described above.
Time & Talent Pledging is a way to open up the ministry of the parish to as many people as possible. It is a good way to be as inclusive as possible and to increase the number of people active in all our many and varied ministries. It is also an important means for each of us to contribute our part to the ministry of the whole parish.
Please take a few minutes to pledge your time and talent for the coming program year.

The book table will offer copies of
Hate Crimes and Ethnoviolence: The History, Current Affairs, and Future of Discrimination in America, our speaker's just-published volume on the subject.
