2010 Annual Pledge Campaign Appeal

Dear Members of the St. Alban’s Family,

As the Wardens of your parish, it is our privilege to write to you today. We write with both joy and humility as we join with you and the Vestry in preparing our plans for mission, ministry and budget for 2010.

As a parish, we have never had more confidence and clarity about our commitment to being part of the Body of Christ in the world. This clarity is reflected in the thriving ministries that abound at St. Alban’s, and this letter asks you to take your part in sustaining and growing those ministries in the year ahead.

This is an important letter and we hope that you will read it carefully, pray about it, discuss it with those close to you and then act on it by making your annual financial pledge for the ministry of your parish.

While this letter is about that financial pledge, it is truly an invitation to join your community in dreaming the dreams that our faith calls us to realize at St. Alban’s Parish. It is your invitation to bring the gifts you have been given to serve God’s work in this extraordinary place.

As you know, our Rector, Scott Benhase, has been called to become the Bishop of Georgia. We celebrate with Scott and Kelly as they make their plans to leave St. Alban’s at the end of 2009. The church in Georgia has called this gifted man to be their leader, and we will pray for them and their new bishop in the years ahead. We look forward to celebrating Scott’s ministry here at a special event in December.

We have every confidence that a strong, vital, and well-led St. Alban’s Parish will move into 2010 without a pause in the energy, good will and faithfulness of our members. We are blessed with a dedicated Vestry, a talented and much-admired clergy and staff, a solid financial position, and most importantly, a clear sense of a common Godward direction. We are pulled forward and drawn together by our fine worship, dynamic and diverse outreach ministries, and gracious hospitality.

A sustaining care of each other and our open and constructive character in all things will serve us well in this time of transition. We pray to see Christ in ourselves and in each other. We share your hope and confidence that a new Rector will be called in the proper time to help lead us forward. And we know that until that time we each have a special opportunity and responsibility for parish leadership.

It is in this light that we write to you today to ask that you make your 2010 pledge to support the ministries of St. Alban’s. Without a doubt, this community of God’s people is a great gift to each and every one of us, and it comes with a great invitation to both participate fully in all its wonderful features and to support its mission with all that we have been given.

Please join us in making a generous pledge now to St. Alban’s Parish.

Yours faithfully in Christ,

Phoebe Nourse Society

The Phoebe Nourse Society was created in 1996 to honor the act of giving to St. Alban’s so that our Parish mission and ministry will go forward. The Society’s purpose is to encourage, support and celebrate the giving of planned gifts or gifts made to the St. Alban’s Endowment Fund. The Society draws its inspiration from the young woman for whom it is named. Phoebe Nourse’s legacy of forty gold pieces to start a fund for “a free church on Mt. Alban” laid the path for future generations in this place. All are invited to follow that path by becoming a member of the Phoebe Nourse Society through remembering St. Alban’s in your will or estate plans, or by making a gift outright to the St. Alban’s Endowment Fund.
